A week in Krakow wouldn’t be complete without a stinking hangover. My brain is pretty much mush today, but thankfully the engineers here are getting very good so the questions have not been so intense. Last night I met up with the myriad of Managers here this week and then with Gareth. Yes, thats right, Gareth. The boy gets everywhere! This summer he’s so far been to Spain, Wales, England, France, Holland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. Not bad for someone who lives in Australia. He even managed to time his trip to Krakow to coincide with me being…

Due to the ludicrous travel policy of the company I work for, I have been banned from using Easyjet. Instead I have to book my flights via Amex, which cost more than double. The upside to this was I landed at the conveniently close Heathrow Airport at a reasonable hour on Friday. The downside was I had to get up at 5 on Sunday in order to get to Gatwick airport (the other side of London) for a 7:30 flight. No friends or family were willing to drop me of at that hour, so that meant a further 50 pound…

Having got back from Zakopane, Espe was suddenly quite ill. She had the same as me the week before but much worse (as it turns out our flat mate in Madrid suffered the same so obviously some kind of virus going around). She spent two days in bed unable to do much more than watch the tennis. Really gutting as she was so excited about this trip and yet she has returned home without seeing Krakow at all. She didn’t even get to hear the trumpet in the main square… We will have to come back. This week I was…

I was joined by Espe on Saturday in Krakow. A lazy day spent avoiding the Pope, although we did have an good meal down in the old Jewish quarter of the city with live music accompaniment. On Sunday we got on the bus down to Zakopane (4 euros for a 200km trip!). A picturesque village at the foot of the Tatra Mountain range. The weather was pretty terrible and the prohibition laws we were trying to escape were also in force in Zakopane. That didn’t ruin our evening though as we found a wonderful log cabin restaurant serving traditional Polish…

Welcomed by blue skies, warm sunshine and full terraces I’m delighted to once again be in Krakow. The beginning of the week was not so great as I was a little ill, but come Wednesday I was back to normal and ready for one of the infamous Cap Krakow nights out. A good meal in Metropolitan followed by far too many beers in a nice courtyard terrace bar and subterranean club. A few more than too many beers for a couple of the managers. One was completely incoherent by the end of the night and another managed to fall up…

On this, my third ‘business’ trip to Poland I decided to make the journey from Krakow to the peaceful mountain resort of Zakopane. Just finding my own way to the bus station and getting to Zakopane off my own back was so exhilarating. Wandering around the village looking for my hotel brought back great memories of traveling and a huge smile to my face. I spent Sunday on the slopes, gradually improving my limited abilities on a snow board. The was my first experience of really soft deep snow, much better for falling over, but a different technique required. I…

With my 2nd two weeks in Krakow drawing to a close, we managed to round a whole collection of engineers and hit the town for some beers. We started off in CK Brewer again, great food and large beer taps on the table. After that we moved onto Rdza. One of the many underground (literaly) clubs in Krakow. My third visit here, probably because Magda loves the place. Magda is the quietest person in the office, but after a couple of beers and some music, the difference is incredible. She will strut her stuff wth anyone (particularly the French), but…

Yesterday evening 12 of us went of to a go karting track in Krakow. One of the Cap engineers organised this and with 14 of us in attendance it was a good crack. (Nik: 25:05 is the time to beat!) Some more photos can be seen hereWe followed this up with a few beers and dinner. This, much like every night here, turned into a lot of beers and a club. Got to bed at 3:30, but thankfully I was on lates today. Seriously flagging right now though. Need to perk up as tonight is my last night here, and…
