It appears that these days most of the pre season F1 testing takes place in Spain. Probably something to do with the weather and for that you won’t hear any complaints from me. The first testing was in Valencia, then Jerez, and finally Barcelona. Given that the Circuit de Catalunya is less than 20km from my flat, it would have been wrong to miss out. Besides, the testing is one of the few affordable ways to see F1 cars at full tilt.
Good to see the the 2011 cars, although it would be a lot to ask for a more exciting season (despite the final outcome) than we had in 2010.
Oh, and can anyone tell me what that ridiculously large black fin above the airbox on the Ferraris is for?

Great photos. No idea what that great big fin is for. Looks like a periscope. Maybe Ferrari are funding this year’s season by offering extra height on the on-car cameras for those TV companies that will pay more to be able to see over the car in front.
Thanks Colin. I’m pleased to say that I’ve done no tweaking of those pics. No cropping, sharpening etc. Good theory, but the camera appears to be in the regular spot…
The periscope gizmo on the Ferrari is an antenna they attach during testing… sometimes it falls off 😉

Hey Andy, long time no see! Just dropped by to see what’s going on in here. Too bad Kubica is out for the upcoming season, let’s just wish him quick recovery..
BTW, I know what that black fin is! It’s of course Playstation 3!
Cheers,
