Long drive home

It was quite bizarre set off on my standard route to work in Madrid and on the same journey turn into the road of my parents, but that is exactly what I did.

With a British registered car to be sold and a whole load of stuff to get back to the UK I decided to drive from Madrid back to London. Marc flew over from the UK to share the driving on this road trip. The first challenge was to load up the car. We took everything down from the flat and placed in behind the car. Espe and Gema both told me it would never fit in, but that just made me more determined. Bar the parcel shelf and two camping mats it did all go in, but it was no easy task. By the time I’d finished there was no space for anything else in the back and the car had dropped several inches due to the weight.

So we set off, with two bags under the passengers legs and one on top, on the long journey. Our target was to get the 3pm ferry from Boulogne on Saturday, but leaving at 2pm on Friday I though we’d be cutting it fine. As it happened, we drove non stop all through the night driving / power napping in shifts apart from an hours break at 5am. In the end we arrived at the ferry port (3rd in line) at 08:30. Very good going me thinks. Once across the channel on the impressive-to-nerdy-engineer-types catamaran ferry the final stretch back to London seemed very short. Just as well as after the last week I was much in need of sleep. Check out my map page to see my route.
