Toughest day so far, and physically one of the toughest of my life. Last 2 hours in heavy rain was really tough with some treacherously steep and slippy gravel.
64km to Reischach in 6 hours 23 minutes. 1185m gain, 1221m loss. Number of snakes nearly run over, 1.
This may well officially be Italy, but it looks and sounds very Austrian. An easy day today but mood a bit down in all of us as we are so tired after the last two days.
Stats for Sunday 71km to Freienfeld, Italy. 1610m gain, 1305m loss. 6 avalanches crossed. 7 hours 23 mins on the ‘road’, and best of all, 75km p/h top speed!
Into Italy! Rest of the day is downhill. Hampered by a puncture and blown tube for Daniel. Great surroundings, great fun.
The crossing of Spain and Portugal will have to wait. A few weeks ago I was chatting on Skype with a German friend of mine when he invited me to join him on his trans alps cycle ride that they do every year. I now have the time off work arranged, flights booked and I…
I had the pleasure at the beginning of the month of visiting one of my best friends from my time in Madrid. I’d booked a long weekend to visit Philippe in Brussels and was very much looking forward to seeing him for the first time in almost a year and half. In that time, we’ve both had some incredible experiences and returned to our respective home countries. Naturally we had a lot to catch up on. It was a fantastic weekend despite the mother of all hangovers (sat, sun & mon). No plans, just catching up and taking in another…
It really feels like I haven’t stopped lately… (another excuse for the irregular posts). Despite living in Bristol, I spent every weekend of May in London. Throw in a week in Milan in the middle and that is not a lot of time at home. I was out in Milan on a work trip trying to organise the Milan launch for this year’s Mongol Rally. It typical Adventurists style, I didn’t find out I was going until about two day’s before hand. Thankfully, Espe came along too, as she has been doing all the correspondence with the Italian teams. Through…
